Sorority Women May Have Been Some of the First Feminists!

Did you know that sorority women were some of the first feminists?

When women in 1851 formed Alpha Delta Pi, the first sorority, it was because of how horribly they were being treated in their university system. Ignored by professors and shunned by a hostile co-education system, they banded together to create safe spaces to study and support one another. Many sorority women were Suffragettes.

Some of today's sorority women are carrying that early sisterhood forward by taking on leadership positions, supporting other women on campus and in the workplace and pushing back against a patriarchal system by empowering other women.

Membership in sorority organizations show that sisterhood is powerful. Get your sisters organized and usher in the spirit of your founders. Get out and vote!
